A spectacular large original painting by acclaimed Cornish artist John Dyer, capturing St Ives on one of those extraordinary days when the sea, sky and harbour seem to become almost entirely blue.
In ‘St Ives Blue’, the artist looks across the famous harbour towards the lighthouse and sweeping curve of St Ives. Sailing boats and fishing boats fill the water, swimmers enjoy the bay and seabirds circle through a vast Cornish sky. In the foreground, towering blue irises, daisies and summer flowers create a vibrant natural frame, while a family and their little black dog pause to take in the view.
John Dyer has amplified the intense blues of sea and sky and set them against warm ochres, oranges, yellows and pinks across the harbour town. The result is a joyful celebration of St Ives at the height of summer, filled with movement, colour and the unmistakable sense of freedom that comes from being beside the Cornish coast.
At 33 x 40 inches, this is a significant and highly collectable John Dyer painting with wonderful presence. Its scale allows the viewer to discover a multitude of details, from tiny boats and figures to flowers, birds and the distinctive architecture of St Ives.
