“What I particularly like about this man is he takes very serious subjects and handles them with a lightness of touch which makes people not feel they are being preached at or made to feel as if they are guilty as sin or that we are necessarily going to hell in a handcart today, but there is always a slight warning that it might happen tomorrow! It is marvellous to have an artist of international standing from Falmouth.”
Sir Tim Smit KBE
The reviews are in:
“Delighted at your totally deserved success.” Sir Tim Smit, KBE
“I feel so privileged to have been a tiny part of your journey and, by association, immensely proud.” Robin Hanbury-Tenison, OBE
“When the sun decides we’ve had enough summer there is no better place to be than Falmouth Art Gallery at the John Dyer exhibition - bursting with light and joy. Wonder with a message.” Dea Birkett - Founder of Kids in Museums, Journalist and writer.
“Happy 50th John, you have not only perfected your own life-affirming art, but more importantly I can clearly see you have perfected the art of living!” Kim Wilde - Rock star
“John's brave use of colour and broad truthful brushstrokes make a direct hit on the retina.” Toyah Willcox
“Thank goodness for John Dyer, I say, not just because I am lucky enough to be able to afford his paintings, but because they make me feel good and I never tire of seeing them on my walls. John is an artist who reaches the parts that many other artists cannot.” Alan Titchmarsh, MBE, DL
John Dyer will be 50 in May of 2018 and Falmouth Art Gallery have long planned to celebrate this milestone in the life of Cornwall's best-loved artist by holding a retrospective exhibition. The exhibition will represent the artist's paintings from the early 1990s to the present day, with a focus on his global environmental painting projects alongside garden paintings and works from Cornwall. It promises to be one of Cornwall's key exhibitions of 2018.
Falmouth Art Gallery will be running a series of workshops interpreting and finding inspiration from John Dyer's paintings for community groups and schools during this exhibition. Please contact Falmouth Art Gallery if you are interested in booking into these.
Some of the paintings in the retrospective exhibition will be available for sale as they are being released from the artist's private collection. There will also be paintings featured on this exhibition page that are important works from the artist's last 25 years of painting, that due to space limitations, will not be available to view in the exhibition at Falmouth Art Gallery.
NEW 'Painting the Colours of the World' Book
We will be publishing a spectacular coffee table 350 page hardback A4 full-colour book about John Dyer's work to accompany the exhibition. Written by Kate Dinn, MA (a former curator of Falmouth Art Gallery) and featuring contributions and interviews from a wide variety of people involved with John's work including a foreword by Alan Titchmarsh, MBE and comments from Sir Tim Smit, KBE and Robin Hanbury-Tenison, OBE. The book closely follows the exhibition and focuses on the areas of Home and family, Cornwall, Gardens at home and abroad, environmental paintings and the Spirit of the Rainforest project. It is a must-have book for all who appreciate the art of John Dyer, collectors, and schools. Published price £39.95. Please order now to guarantee your copy.

Thank you for the really wonderful print,it arrived safely and it was packed so well. This is a 50th birthday gift for my daughter who did this walk last year with her Dad. I know that she really enjoyed this day so I thought that it would be a lovely reminder for her. Once again thank you so much. At the moment it is in being framed ready for her birthday on 30th June.
Joanna Short's poster of St Anthony-In-Meneage is a companion piece to her Helford poster which we also purchased. The colors are cheerful, and it reminds us of our days in Cornwall and the lovely walk to St. Anthony.
My husband and I have travelled to Cornwall from the United States a number of times through the years. Our favorite spot is Helford where we were fortunate enough to stay in a rental cottage. Joanne Short's poster brings back our memories of that lovely place. The colors are beautiful.
I’m so happy with the beautiful picture - it captures perfectly the memories of wonderful holidays with our children in Cornwall.
John was delightful to deal with when purchasing this picture and delivery was super fast. Framed beautifully.
Such a vibrant, fun painting. Very different from most of the items in my collection but felt a need of something a bit irreverent & cheery 😊.
Painting extremely well packaged - perhaps a little too much so, as I struggled to separate the packing for recycling.
Thank you for such a colourful outlook on life!
Such a Wonderfull, colourful composition of the Helford river .which every day evokes wonderful memories of our visits to this beautiful area of Cornwall.
A pleasure to have hanging in our home
.
We are both so delighted to have Joanne’s wonderful work hanging on our wall to admire its Vibrant and contemporary interpretation of a part of beautiful Cornwall that means a lot to us . After viewing Delivery to the Isle of wight was fantastic.
I'm absolutely delighted with my privately commissioned painting. I wanted to buy something special and particular for my sons up and coming wedding and when I saw Johns work online, I knew it would be perfect. A really delightful man, and a wonderfully charming and personal end result. I'd do this again in a heartbeat. Thank you John. Karen
We are absolutely delighted with our latest Joanne Short painting, it is a gem.
Looks great, good match and contrast to JDs 2025 print we also have.
Beautiful print, vivid colours, wonderful depiction of St Ives. Just getting it framed, so not seen in situ yet. Already have one of Truro, which I adore.
Love the painting. Arrived safely packed and kind notes from John. Loved the whole experience and the painting brings a bit of seaside feeling into our living room.
Just received the cushion I ordered, it’s absolutely gorgeous. I chose the suede finish and it’s so soft and the colours are really vibrant. It’s well made and beautifully finished.
Exactly as it looks on line . This is for a birthday present for a friend who loves Cornwall but is not long able to visit. I hope she will love it..
Absolutely love my purchase plus delivery was quick and efficient.
