This Cornwall painting is a piece of original art painted with acrylic on board with gold and silver leaf by Cornish artist John Dyer.
The spectacular bronze age fields and the village of Zennor in Cornwall has inspired this gorgeous original painting by artist John Dyer. The stone hedges that form the borders of the fields are the oldest man made structures on earth still being used for their original purpose, they are older than the Pyramids and older than Stonehenge, and this painting celebrates their survival through the millennia.
The artist has brought the field patterns to life by stretching their aspect up to meet the glittering sky. The starlit sky is gilded with gold and silver leaf and the shooting stars form the shape of green stone axe heads connecting us to Cornwall's ancient and mystical past.
The view of the painting is looking down onto Zennor, with the church of St Senara taking centre stage with a Cornish flag flying proudly from the top. The famous mermaid carving in the church is referred to in the painting with the mermaids in the sea at Zennor Head, which the artist has included by adopting the high point of view on the landscape.
The windswept trees and ripe blackberries remind us of the wild and rugged nature of this special place and Cornish choughs explore the ancient fields for food.
The painting features gold and silver leaf, which has been applied to the stars and the crescent moon. The painting literally twinkles as you move past it and it changes with the light. To protect the painting's gilding it has been varnished with a two layer protective gloss UV varnish and is supplied framed and ready to hang.
