What do art consultants and art advisors do?

Art consultants are art experts in their field that help clients to find art for their interiors, workplace, home or business. We work with private collectors and businesses to source art that is suitable for commercial spaces such as hotels and restaurants, holiday parks, offices etc.

Using art in a hotel can not only enhance the decor of the rooms and public areas but also gives an identity to the hotel.

Some of our recent projects include providing framed art by our artists from Mother Ivey's Bay Holiday Park in Cornwall, a number of high profile Hotels in Falmouth, the luxury superyacht the M.Y. Constance and a recent site-specific installation for Kings Colege Hospital in London.

As art consultants we develop a brief with the client, we might do an initial audit of any art that is already involved in the project, we then expand the conversation around what collection of art, artist and style would work and if original paintings or reproductions are needed for the new project.

If you are based in London we are happy to use zoom calls for initial meetings if needed or can travel up to London for a site meeting so we can get a feel of the space.

If you are an international client we are happy to discuss your project via zoom as our artists have painted many parts of the world from Australia to the Amazon rainforest and potentially can build out a very exciting artist residency around your project to create new site specific art.

For your project we might be sourcing art from our extensive range of art or be looking to create new commission pieces of art for your space. This is all part of the process and framing can play a key part in the way the art works for our client's space too.

The same artwork framed in a wide natural wood frame or presented in a slick metal-edged frame can make a big difference to the way the art hangs in the interior space, and framing can often be used to link other interior features and colours like furniture or architectural details to the artworks.

How much do art consultants charge for providing services and artworks?

This can vary greatly depending on the art consultant's level of experience and what services they offer. Generally, clients can expect art consultants to charge a commission on any art that is sourced and sold as part of their service. This commission can be anywhere from 15% to 50%, so it is important to investigate and find an art consultant who fits your budget or even ask about trade discounts if you are purchasing multiple pieces of art.

At The John Dyer Gallery, we are happy to work on a fee-free basis when your business is committing to purchasing a range of multiple pieces of art from our stable of artists which includes artist John Dyer, Joanne Short and Ted Dyer, three of the most famous artists in Cornwall.

If you would like us to source a range of artwork from additional artists, or simply wish to use our art consultancy services then we will discuss an appropriate fee with you for our services.

What does an art gallery consultant do?

An art consultant, or art advisor, helps businesses and private collectors choose art for their interior spaces. They act as intermediaries between the artist and the client, assessing what art would work best in terms of both aesthetics and practicality. Our unique offering is that you can choose to work directly with the artists too.

As art consultants, we have a deep knowledge of artworks and art history and are able to suggest pieces of art that are both iconic and timeless. We have a network of working partners from framers, artists and galleries to source from.

We are also aware of the latest trends in the art world so that we can recommend pieces that are current and will stand the test of time.
