Original Painting by Joanne Short. 'Royal Plants at the Hanbury Palace, Giardini Hanbury'. La Mortola, Italy.

The Hanbury Palace is in the Hanbury Gardens, La Mortola, just across the French border on the Italian Riviera. Sir Thomas Hanbury purchased the land in 1867 after sailing past and spotting the perfect place for a grand villa and garden. In this painting we can see that the gardens continue to flourish to this day, with amazing sculptural plants clinging to the hillside above the Mediterranean.

Artist Joanne Short shared a studio at La Mortola with John Dyer for two years. The artists produced many exciting paintings based on the Giardini Hanbury and exhibited them in Monaco. You can read more in our blog posts.
