Artists John Dyer and Joanne Short have been captivated and inspired by the beauty of France for many years and have been on many painting holidays around the country over the last thirty years, including the Loire Valley, the Côte d'Azur, Provence, Brittany and Paris.
Throughout art history, the beach and sea have been popular subjects for painters worldwide. The beauty and character of seaside towns and villages have been depicted over the years by many artists - from the French Impressionists and post-impressionists on the southern coast of France, Normandy and Pont Aven in Brittany, to the Newlyn School of Painters in Cornwall in the southwest of England. From Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso to JMW Turner and the Newlyn School of painters, the beach has been a source of inspiration. In this blog, we will look at some of our favourite paintings of the beach.

There is something about the French countryside that inspires artists to capture its beauty on canvas. Whether it is the rolling hills of Provence, the rocky coastline of Brittany, or the bustling streets of Paris, there is a unique magic in the air that cannot be found anywhere else. In this blog post, we will take a look at some of the paintings and prints created by our gallery artists John DyerJoanne Short and Ted Dyer over the years. We will also explore why these landscapes have been such an inspiration for them.

Cornish artist Joanne Short is inspired by the wildflowers that grow in abundance throughout her native county and around the world. She often paints floral scenes that depict the delicate beauty of these blooms in their natural surroundings. Her floral paintings are full of vibrant colour and life. In this blog post, we will take a look at Joanne's work, as well as the work of other female artists and male artists who have painted flowers throughout history. We will explore the significance of floral art, and why it continues to be popular today.
There is something about painting gardens that seems to appeal to artists from all over the world. Perhaps it is the challenge of capturing the beauty and serenity of a garden in a painting. Or maybe it is simply the joy that gardens bring to people's lives. In this blog post, we will take a look at some paintings of gardens by artists from around the world. We will also explore how artists have been able to capture the unique beauty of different types of gardens, from flower gardens to vegetable gardens.
In this blog post, we will take a look at the work of three landscape painters, John DyerJoanne Short and Ted Dyer, who have all captured the beauty of the landscape in their paintings. Each artist has a unique style, but they all share a love for capturing the essence of Cornwall in their work. We will also discuss the inspiration behind these beautiful works of art.

Both the UK and France are a wonder of the natural world and a landscape painter's dream, and both have played a big part in these three artists paintings. With its rugged coastline, sheltered coves and stunning gardens, Cornwall provides plenty of inspiration for artists, as does France, with its changing light and colourful landscape.

Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Monet and many other historic artists are famed for their flower garden canvases and the garden is still a powerful source of inspiration for contemporary artists today.
When you think of French landscape paintings, what comes to mind? Perhaps posters of the Eiffel Tower in Paris or picturesque villages nestled in the countryside. While these are certainly iconic images of France, they don't tell the whole story. There is a side of France that is just as beautiful. Southern France is home to artists who paint scenes of rolling hills blanketed in lavender, sun-drenched vineyards, and ancient olive groves. If you're looking for a taste of Provence without leaving your home, take a look at some of the paintings by artists John Dyer and Joanne Short, painted while on several trips to Provence and the surrounding area, including during their honeymoon. In this blog artist Joanne Short talks about her experience of painting in the South of France.
