Amazonian Tribal Art. Spirit of the Rainforest Amazon Art

Amazon Rainforest art is a new genre of art that the John Dyer Gallery is proud to be highlighting with the Spirit of the Rainforest project with British artist John Dyer and Tribal Amazon Indian artist Nixiwaka Yawanawá. There are similarities to other tribal cultures, such as aboriginal art and painting, but this new genre of Amazon art is less connected to the landscape and more connected to the spiritual world.

Tropical rainforest paintings

This is the first project where an Amazon Indian has been facilitated to create his tropical rainforest painting in response to the jungle. The resulting forest paintings are a unique cultural collaboration between two important artists, John Dyer and Nixiwaka Yawanawá. Nixiwaka Yawanawá and John Dyer first met at the Eden Project in Cornwall in 2015

Described by Robin Hanbury-Tenison OBE, the president of Survival International, as:

"One of the most important exhibitions of art in recent times, and a new genre of art that will grow into a major new strand of contemporary painting."

John Dyer travelled to the Amazon rainforest to paint with the Yawanawá tribe in 2019. The resulting paintings and digital iPad rainforest pictures and drawings are a unique insight into the tribal and spiritual world of the Yawanawá.

Artist John Dyer is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in London and was funded by an expedition grant from Neville Shulman CBE to be able to make this series of Amazon rainforest artwork. Rainforest paintings by famous artists

Artist John Dyer is the artist in residence for the UK's Eden Project, which has planted the world's largest captive rainforest, and he is also an official artist for the Earth with the USA's Earth Day Network. John Dyer is one of the most famous artists who has painted in the rainforest as he has explored not only the Amazon in Brazil but the rainforest in Costa Rica and Borneo.
