Newquay is a small town in Cornwall popular with art and beach lovers alike. The town is known for its dramatic seascapes, which have been the inspiration for many artists over the years. In addition to the beautiful coastline, Newquay also has some of the best beaches in the region or even the United Kingdom.
Over the years artists Joanne Short and John Dyer have painted the stunning beaches in and around Newquay many times. At the John Dyer Gallery we have a collection of images in the form of limited edition prints and art posters of this area. There are many beaches in Newquay, each with their own unique beauty and character. Here are some of our favourites.
Fistral Beach is a beautiful sandy beach. It is the town's main surfing beach and is also home to the annual Boardmasters surf competition.
Backed by high cliffs and sand dunes, the 750m long beach is one of the world's top surfing destinations, regularly producing waves 6-8ft in height. The beach is also overlooked by the Headland Hotel, adding to the picturesque scene.
The two headlands at either end of the beach funnel in powerful, rolling waves, making for an exhilarating surfing experience. For those interested in learning to surf, search no further - there are several surf schools located nearby that offer lessons and rental equipment. With its stunning setting and ideal conditions, it's no wonder that the beach is a mecca for surfers from all over the globe and millions of surfers over the years have visited in the hopes of catching their best wave.
A fantastic limited edition print of Newquay by Cornish artist John Dyer of Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall. John has captured surfers, wind surfers, topless bathers, the iconic Headland Hotel, carpets of wild Cornish flowers, puffins, seagulls, and much more in his work. This is a fantastic limited edition print of Fistral Beach in all its glory.
Whilst the name of this beach is Towan, many people mistakenly call it 'Town beach' as it is so close to Newquay's town centre. Set at the bottom of the aptly named Beach Road, Towan beach is a stretch of the same fine golden sand found all along Newquay Bay.
Sitting in the lee of Towan Head to the west this is Newquay's most sheltered beach which nestles up against the town's harbour.
An iconic feature is 'the Island', or 'Jago's Island' a tall stack of rock at the eastern end of the beach
Cornish artist Joanne Short's Cornwall wall art print of Newquay. A great vintage style artwork poster print of Newquay Towan Beach in Cornwall by Joanne Short. Agapanthus and wildflowers gazing back towards Towan Beach and the island with the suspension bridge make for an incredible image. The sea is depicted in broad bands of colour, sweeping onto the beach, creating a fantastic perspective effect.
Great Western Beach
Great Western beach is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing. The beach is also popular with families.
Cornish Art Limited Edition Print by John Dyer. 'Surfing and Sunbathing, Great Western Beach, Newquay'
This signed limited edition print of Newquay, by Cornish artist John Dyer is taken from his original painting of Great Western Beach and depicts the magnificent Great Western Beach looking back onto Newquay Harbour. The image is rich in narrative, with surfers, swimmers, sunbathers, dogs, and his trademark seagulls all having a wonderful summer day. A fantastic example of this artist's work that will make your house feel like summer.
Lusty Glaze Beach
Lusty Glaze Beach is a private, secluded beach that is only accessible by foot and can only be accessed by walking down a steep cliff path. This must be one of the most special places in the country for a wedding, which is what the owners of the beach specialise in. What better gift for the bride and groom than this poster, or the original painting of Lusty Glaze, by artist Joanne Short.
On this new canvas, Cornish artist John Dyer has captured the charm of Newquay Harbour in Cornwall. Brightly colored boats float in the harbour, seagulls soar overhead, and families relax on the warm sand. For a fantastic Cornish day out, families enjoy the warm sand and set up deck chairs and windbreaks. It's a fantastic time and an excellent picture of Cornwall.
The next beach along the coast from Newquay is Porth Beach with its stunning views across the bay to Pentire headland.
