Painting Description
A freshly gathered arrangement of bluebells brings the colour and generosity of a friend’s garden into this jewel-like original oil painting by Cornish artist Joanne Short.
The flowers arch gracefully from a tall striped vase, their violet-blue and soft pink bells held together by elegant green stems. Joanne has simplified each bloom into a clear, rhythmic shape, allowing the flowers to spread across the composition with a sense of natural movement and balance.
Colour and pattern are central to the painting. The vivid green vase is encircled with bands of blue, orange and pale turquoise, while the lilac-striped tabletop, red and orange diamond pattern and warm golden background create a succession of beautifully coordinated flat colour.
