Wild boar, bats, badgers, donkeys, an owl and an eagle provide a narrative to this nocturne painting of the Jardin Des Antipodes in Menton by John Dyer. A little red boat sails past and two paddle boarders set off into the bay. Mandarine, lemon and avocado trees can be seen in the garden and the harvest is underway. Chillies, courgettes, tomatoes and plantain give a taste of the produce growing in the garden and aromatic lavender lines some of the terraces near the badgers. A donkey drinks from the pool that is filled from the small stream that winds its way from Italy into the French garden. Edible nasturtium flowers grow wildly across the terraces and beyond the garden the spectacular view of the old town of Menton can be seen set under a twinkling night sky.
