Original artwork carries an emotional resonance that prints just can't replicate. Owning a piece of original art means owning a piece of an artist's soul, their passion embodied in paint. In the home or office, original art can serve as a focal point, sparking conversation and inspiring creativity. Finally, each piece is unique, allowing you to express your individuality and taste.
What attracts us to an original artwork?
Identifying with a piece of artwork
Both artists John Dyer and Ted Dyer, although through totally different styles, often depict their own story in their paintings. In his older work, Ted Dyer's original oil paintings are often of his young family, gradually progressing into more recent times with images of his grandchildren enjoying a family day out. Below is a beautiful piece 'Sails in the Bay. Pentle Bay, Tresco', 12x16 inches original art oil on canvas depicting Ted's Granddaughter sitting in the sand dunes on Tresco with her mum watching on.

John's inspiration comes from his life in Cornwall and travels around the world. His work is full of colour and life. Collectors will often identify with the work as it reminds them of happy times they have spent in Cornwall themselves.
"I have lived in Cornwall for most of my life. I led a somewhat enchanted childhood with the freedom to wander around the beach to explore and absorb the beauty of the environment. My paintings have evolved from these childhood memories and hopefully enable people to revisit those happy childhood days or memories of times spent with their own families. I hope that my paintings help to remind people how fun life can be."
The painting of Barnoon Terrace below is a typical example of how John's autobiographical work can evoke memories of our own time spent on holiday in St Ives with the young couple enjoying pottering in their garden with the iconic view across the rooftops of the town, across the bay and out towards Godrevy Lighthouse.

A splash of colour
Original paintings can brighten a room and bring a dull wall alive. An original artwork can be in several different media; Ted Dyer and Joanne Short both paint in oil on canvas, and John Dyer uses acrylic on canvas and board. Ted has also done many watercolours in his time.
Joanne Short's landscape paintings and still life paintings will brighten up any space with their vibrant colours. Her paintings are full of flowers and patterns - curtains, tablecloths, pottery and wallpapers all marrying together to create a sumptuous backdrop to a colourful room.

Tips for Evaluating Artwork
When considering the purchase of a painting, there are several key factors to keep in mind:
- The Artistic Style: Identify what style of art appeals to you. Our gallery showcases a variety of styles from our artists, catering to a diverse range of tastes.
- Colour Scheme: Consider the colour palette of the painting. Will it blend with your existing decor or stand out as a statement piece? Remember, artwork can define the mood of a room, so choose colours that resonate with you.
- Size of the Artwork: Make sure the dimensions of the artwork are appropriate for your space. Too small a piece may get lost on a large wall, while art that's too large can overpower a room.
- Artist’s Background: Understand the artist’s background and inspiration. This can add depth to your appreciation of the art. We offer comprehensive artist profiles on our website to help you connect with their work.
- Uniqueness: Look for something unique that speaks to you on a personal level. Original art has the power to evoke emotion, trigger thought, and inspire. Be patient until you find a piece that resonates with you.
- Investment Value: While the enjoyment of art is subjective, it's worth considering its potential financial value. The reputation of the artist, the rarity of the work, and its condition can all influence the future value of an artwork. But remember, even paintings by Vincent Van Gogh weren't popular at the time, but they were purchased by people who loved them - now they are priceless!
Remember, the perfect original painting is not just a visual delight; it's a piece that speaks to your soul and reflects your personality. Enjoy the process of discovery and be open to the unexpected!
Original art - a gift to be remembered
It's not just for your own home that original art makes the perfect addition, but it also serves as an unforgettable gift. Whether for a special wedding, anniversary, housewarming or Christmas, giving the gift of an original painting shows thoughtfulness and appreciation.
