The mesmerising and vast ocean is a place of great fascination and beauty. It has captured the hearts of artists throughout history and continues to do so. Many painters have chosen to channel their creativity and imagination into the world's oceans and beaches, capturing their beauty and serenity in their masterpieces. In this blog, we'll explore some new and awe-inspiring seaside paintings by Joanne Short and discover her unique ability to transport us to a world of serene calmness and beauty and some artwork by John Dyer who brings us all the joy of Cornish family holidays by the sea.

John and Joanne share similar ideas, popular with their customers, at times painting side by side while out on an excursion along the Cornish coast, but each has their own individual way of executing their artwork, with very different results. Both artists use a bright and colourful palette, but John's work uses plenty of acrylic paint, while Joanne's art uses oil in flat blocks of colour, almost like a print. John's work captures holiday life and fun in the sun in the most fantastic way.

New Seaside paintings

Here is some artwork by John and Joanne where we discover similar ideas and subjects the artists have selected as a starting point, but with totally different results.

Nestled in the picturesque harbour town of St Ives, Porthminster Beach is a true paradise for beach lovers. In this painting by Joanne Short the soft, golden sand and crystal-clear waters in the early morning sun, depict it as the perfect place to unwind and soak up the breathtaking Cornish scenery.

John's painting, however, shows the beach as a sea of people indulging in sunbathing, swimming in the sea, and surfing the waves, showing Porthminster Beach as an ultimate fun destination for a seaside escape.

John's painting is of a summer scene, a time when the town is bustling with life as locals and tourists alike flock to the pretty harbour beach to soak up the colourful atmosphere.

The bright coloured flowers and boats in Joanne's painting of the harbour are particularly captivating, with their bright hues standing out brilliantly against the sea and incredible soft light that envelops her paintings of the seaside town.

This secluded seaside island retreat offers visitors the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in a world of tranquillity. With miles of unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear sea, Tresco is a paradise for nature lovers, artists and beach enthusiasts alike.

Stepping off the boat onto the shores of Tresco in the Isles of Scilly feels like entering a different world. The vibrant colours and details of the surrounding flora in Joanne's painting of Old Grimsby coupled with the serene waves lapping against the shore, are utterly mesmerising.

It's easy to lose yourself in the island's unique charm. Here John paints a painting of a family strolling along the white sand beach of Pentle Bay, while puffins and seagulls fly overhead and sailing boats bob in the bay. Tresco truly is a hidden gem and this painting creates a little slice of heaven to take home and hang on the wall.
