Painting Tunes in the Dunes, Perranporth's music festival

Painting Tunes in the Dunes, Perranporth's music festival

It is not just the music that makes a music festival, it is the colour, people, festival flags and atmosphere that really make it special. Perranporth's Tunes in the Dunes festival grew from the well known beach music venue the Watering hole. Set on the beach and nestled between the wonderful sand dunes and the rolling waves of the Atlantic this unique festival really captured the eye of artist John Dyer.

"I have to admit that I am not a big fan of live music, but I do love the spectacle of a festival with all the amazing people, colour and flags. It provides so much to paint and be inspired by and for me the best way to enjoy the festival is to paint it. I wanted to really capture the sense of place and have combined a night time aspect alongside a setting sun, as the sun sets on the north coast of Cornwall have to be seen to be believed. The wild nature of the beach with the natural plants and seabirds makes a wonderful contrast to the lights and festival flags. It's a painting of celebration and life, energy, music and youth."

The original painting is now in a private collection but the vintage style art posters are available now from our gallery web site.
