View original fine art paintings from our online Somerset Art Gallery collection of the beautiful landscape, towns and villages of Somerset. All of our artists have been inspired by the Somerset landscape for many years, with the wonderful view of the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor and the beautiful city of Wells being favourite places for them to paint. View Somerset paintings from artists John Dyer, Ted Dyer and Joanne Short. We are sure that our art buyers will be inspired by the many interpretations and views of the Somerset landscape.
Artist John Dyer was born in Ruishton in Somerset and was raised in his early years at Creech St Michael where his father artist Ted Dyer lived and worked from the old vicarage. Even at the very early age of five John Dyer would explore the Somerset landscape with his father on beautiful misty mornings, discovering the colours, atmosphere and wildlife of this amazing country.
John Dyer, and his wife and fellow artist Joanne Short, own a house in Wells in Somerset and regularly visit the county to paint and gain inspiration for their art. Joanne Short is the official artist for Visit Somerset and her paintings of Somerset have been used on the official Visit Somerset visitor guides.
"Somerset will always hold a special place in my heart, it has inspired my father Ted Dyer for a lifetime of paintings and art, and in recent times I have had the joy of exploring and living in Somerset again. I have very fond memories of exploring the stunning Somerset countryside as a small boy with my drawing book, 'Eye Spy' books and camera. The views across the levels, with the mist and willow trees are spectacular and a real highlight in our wonderful country."

When artist Joanne Short paints Somerset she is doing so as a local artist. Living in Wells has given her art a firm connection with the county and England's smallest city. The architecture of the buildings in Wells, the music from the pupils of Wells Cathedral School radiating from the medieval properties on Vicars' Close and the stunning gardens of the Bishops Palace have provided much inspiration for her art.
