To help to celebrate the 2007 Tresco Marathon the Island Hotel on Tresco have acquired the painting "Everyone's a Winner" by artist John Dyer.
The painting features in the new book about John's work 'A Vision of Paradise' by Brian Stewart and is one of John Dyer's key celebration paintings.
The painting was completed last year during the 2006 marathon while John Dyer was resident artist on the island and depicts the finishing line which is just outside the hotel. All of the celebrity runners are depicted in the painting with Bill Bryson being easy to spot in his yellow top with 'Bill' on his shirt. Jenny Agutter can also be spotted on the left of the painting and is that Charlie Dimock floating topless out in the bay !
Dara O'Kearney who won the race can be seen in the front of the painting celebrating with number 86 on his shirt.
The Tresco Marathon came in to being seven years ago when Peter Hingston and then Island Hotel manager Philip Callan decided that they would like to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, as Peter's daughter Jade, now aged eight, suffers from this debilitating and life-shortening disease. Total funds raised to date exceed £300k.
"The Tresco marathon was such an amazing and fun event to watch and paint. The island is a very challenging place to run around, but the support that the runners get from the community and the Tresco estate is fantastic. It was a real joy painting this and I hope that it comes to epitomize this amazing event." John Dyer.
It is hoped that at some point prints of the painting might be made available to support the Cystic Fibrosis trust, but in the first instance the artist, The John Dyer Gallery and the Island Hotel on Tresco are all delighted that this painting will now be on public display for all of the runners to enjoy and to take inspiration from.
The Tresco Estate have a number of John Dyer original paintings; with two of the largest hung at the heliport on the island.
