Joanne Short: Painted and collaged backdrop
In a workshop led over three days by artist Joanne Short the children completed a set of charcoal drawings of the town of Menton in France from life. The children worked on individual drawings, a collaborative montage drawing, a large painted backdrop based on their montage and the piece which features on this poster constructed from buildings made by individual children.
Joanne Short and John Dyer: Stick and Ink
During a days workshop artists John Dyer and Joanne Short asked 25 French children to make drawings using found sticks, grass, bark and seed dipped into black paint.
The children had to find their own natural brushes to use with black paint to create this stunning black and white drawing. The project focused on mark making techniques. The drawing was completed on location on the island of the Îles de Lérins off the coast of Cannes on La Côte d'Azur. Artsist John Dyer and Joanne Short accompanied the children who all completed their own paintings first and then worked on this large collaborative final piece. The painting is now hanging in the school.
