This vibrant work records the excitement of daily life where rice — the staple food of the Philippines — is weighed, sold and carried away under the tropical sun.
Dyer’s expressive brushwork and bold palette bring the market to life: stalls piled high with rice, hand-painted price signs glowing in yellows and blues, vendors and customers weaving through the narrow streets. Black chickens peck at the ground, while swifts swoop overhead, adding to the rhythm of the scene.
