History of Fowey
Fowey has been a popular tourist destination for many years, and it's easy to see why. This quaint town is situated on the picturesque Fowey River, and there are plenty of things to do in the area. Whether you want to explore the nearby coastline or just relax and enjoy the view, this is the perfect place to do it.
Fowey has a long history dating back to the 13th century, and this is reflected in its architecture, with its castle standing on the hill, overlooking the river. Many of the buildings are listed as being of historical importance, so it's worth taking a stroll around to admire them.

Fowey Harbour
The harbour has been used since medieval times, and it's one of the busiest in Cornwall in the summer months. There are plenty of boats to see, and you can even take a ferry ride across the river to Bodinnick or Polruan, both lovely places to visit. If you're feeling adventurous, why not hire a kayak or a day boat and explore the area for yourself? The River Fowey is very popular for sailing and many people visit on their yachts.

Fowey Regatta is a popular sailing event that takes place every year for a week during August. It's a great opportunity to explore the River Fowey and see some of the boats that visit the area. There are also plenty of waterside activities and sailing races to enjoy.

River Trips
You can take a boat trip on the River Fowey - it is the best way to get a great view of the harbour and castle, and to take in the view of Polruan, the riverside town situated on the other side of the river. John and I went on a trip around the bay a few years ago and had a fabulous time. It was lovely to get a view of Readymoney Cove from the boat, which is a pretty beach on the river. We were both inspired by the views and painted a collection of work from our photos and drawings.

This festival is a popular event that takes place annually. It's a great opportunity to meet some of your favourite authors, listen to readings and talks, and take part in workshops. There are also plenty of bookstalls to browse, so you're sure to find something new to read. In 2019 John did a talk and presentation about his book 'Painting the Colours of the World'. We sell this book on our website in two sizes which make perfect gifts for art lovers.
The Fowey Harbour Hotel
This hotel is a short walk from the beach. Set in beautifully landscaped gardens, right by the water's edge, it is a scenic and peaceful location; one of the best in Cornwall.
In the summer it is the perfect location for a Cornish cream tea on the lawn. It is a beautiful sight with tables set out with parasols and people enjoying the view. After a lovely afternoon with tea on the lawn, John and I were both inspired to paint and we have several prints inspired by the experience.
