Trewidden Garden Official Artist: 2016

"It's fabulous, thank you! We really like how you’ve got the camellias in and the magnolias looks fantastic against that sky."

In 2016 Alverne Bolitho, through the Bolitho Estate who owns Trewidden Garden, contacted the John Dyer Gallery to ask if artist Joanne Short would be able to visit the garden with a view to painting a commission for them. Joanne's new range of vintage style art posters inspired the Bolitho Estate to contact the gallery.

Joanne made several visits to the garden as their official artist in 2016 and made a series of drawings to base her new painting on.

The key elements of the painting were to capture the magnolia flowers at their best, together with camellias. Joanne selected the area around the pond at Trewidden for her painting as she felt it best represented the garden.

Edward Bolitho (1804 - 1890) started the garden at Trewidden in the second half of the 19th Century by planting woodland cover and then selected exciting new plants that were being introduced from Asia and the Southern Hemisphere.

The Bolitho Estate and Trewidden garden where delighted with the resulting painting.

Trewidden plan to use images of the painting for a wide variety of publishing in the future.

The original Trewidden Joanne Short 24 x 24 inch oil on canvas painting is on public display at Trewidden Gardens in the tea room, and the vintage style art posters of the Trewidden garden painting are available online from the John Dyer Gallery.
