John Dyer appointed as the Artist in Residence for the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta 2014

Internationally acclaimed artist John Dyer has been appointed as the Falmouth Artist in Residence for the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta in 2014

John will produce a new official Falmouth Tall Ships painting which will be used on the front cover of the official programme and will also be available to purchase as a limited edition print.

John held the same position as Artist in Residence for the 2008 Regatta, when his work was much admired and sought after. Next year there will again be a private view of John’s work at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall as part of the town’s celebrations during the event.

Fun, lively and appealing to a worldwide audience, John Dyer captures the lighter side of life in his colourful paintings. Recognised for his cheerful reflections of Cornwall, John captures the humour of places and events in his work.

John Dyer says “I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to paint the Tall Ships Regatta 2014. Having worked as the artist in residence for the 1998 and 2008 regattas the Tall Ships have become a key part of my creative story. To be working with Visit Cornwall and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and to promote the event through my new paintings is wonderful. I am looking forward to exploring the amazing boats that sail in from all over the world, their stories and histories, the colour and carnival atmosphere that the event brings. I aim to bring all this together in a spectacular new set of celebration paintings that will be showcased at a special event at the Museum during the Tall Ships Regatta. I can’t wait! “

Sam Groom, Visit Cornwall’s Festivals & Events Manager at Cornwall Development Company says, “We are so pleased to be working with John Dyer again and we are grateful for his support.  His enthusiasm and creative flair have added enormously to the event in previous years, attracting great interest from both the media and the public. To be able to use John’s Tall Ships painting on the front cover of the official programme makes it a wonderful souvenir.”
