“An out of season blast of fresh Cornish air and colour at Pedn Vounder beach is just what we need to get our creative souls refreshed and ready to go as we expect the better weather to arrive in the next few weeks.
Camping as a family in our Dormobile Land Rover brings a huge amount to us and provides so much vital inspiration for our paintings. We have just got back from a 48hr break on the amazing South Coast of Cornwall at Treen farm campsite. As soon as we pitch up and pop the top to create our mini home from home we become totally immersed in the landscape, colour, weather and fun that is to be had in the wild in Cornwall.
Even on a blustery grey day (as it was) the colours are inspirational. Aqua sea and white sand combined with virtually empty beaches and some of the most spectacular cliffs and rock formations you will find anywhere on the planet.
The isolated and exquisitely beautiful beach of Pedn Vounder is just a ten minute stroll from the camp site. It is a bit of a scrabble down the cliffs to get to the sand but every step provides a world class view and atmosphere. Slightly further along the coast you can walk to Porthcurno and the Minack theatre which are also amazing locations.
Running barefoot on the cool sand to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore is fantastic. Cormorants surf in on the waves, darting in and out of the sea searching for fish. It's a mesmerising sight.
We are the only family on the beach and can stay late into the evening as the warmth and comfort of the van is only 10 minutes back up the cliff. We really are very lucky.
This is a very special place and offers some of Cornwall's very best coastline. We will be back in the next few months and the paintings are already forming in our imaginations.”
