Around it, \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003esambar deer\u003c\/span\u003e stand among the trees, a \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003egrey langur\u003c\/span\u003e watches from the forest floor and \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eblack drongos\u003c\/span\u003e perch high in the branches.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThe painting is filled with the distinctive colours of Pench at the end of the day. Many of the trees are \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eteak\u003c\/span\u003e, and their warm reds, oranges and pinks glow against violets, blues and greens as the evening light deepens and the forest changes character.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eJohn deliberately allows the animals and the forest to visually merge. The leopard’s coat echoes the marks and shadows of the woodland floor, while the vertical rhythm of the trees surrounds and absorbs the wildlife. No animal is presented as separate from its surroundings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eThis idea of \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003ecoexistence\u003c\/span\u003e lies at the heart of the painting. The leopard, deer, langur, birds, grasses and trees are all part of the same living system.
