Joanne Short Painting Commissioned for Truro City Guide

Over 60 thousand people will be able to walk away with a Joanne Short picture in their hands this year if they visit the city of Truro in Cornwall and other cathedral towns and cities across the UK.

Celebrated Cornish artist Joanne Short was commissioned by Truro City Council, working in partnership with FalRiver Cornwall and design agency MPAD, to paint the essence of her vision of Truro to feature on the 2013 official city guide.

The resulting original oil painting “Blue Sky, Truro” has been very well received by all the partners and the tourist information centre in Truro.

By using contemporary art for the official Truro City Guide Cornwall has placed art at its cultural and economic heart.

“Truro is a really vibrant city with beautiful architecture, outstanding natural scenery and a wonderful atmosphere. It was a challenge to capture that in one single image but I am really pleased with the final picture and delighted that people like it.” Joanne Short.

“It is absolutely stunning, it is so clean and clear.” Mayor of Truro, Lindsay Southcombe was very taken with the painting and wanted to make sure it was shown off to the city.

Abi Steel from the Truro Tourist Information Centre said; “We are delighted that this years guide has come out in time for half-term. It really showcases Truro to both visitor and residents alike, and the cover is just beautiful.”

The painting and official guide have been received with great enthusiasm by everyone involved.

Toby Budd, marketing manager for Fal River Cornwall said; “Last years guide featuring John Dyer’s painting was so successful we managed to increase production to 60,000 for this year which is great news for businesses and Truro as a city.”

Truro City Council expressed an interest in acquiring the painting for the city’s permanent art collection and the artist was delighted to present the painting to the Mayor at Truro Cathedral. The painting will initially be exhibited at the Truro Tourist Information Centre before being placed into the city’s permanent art collection and put on display at a variety of locations.

Representatives from the Royal Cornwall Museum also attended the launch event and will be discussing how the latest painting to join the city’s art collection can be used for exhibition and education.

The painting is also available as a signed and numbered limited edition print from The John Dyer Gallery.
