John Dyer and Joanne Short Community workshop. Painting at Gyllyngdune Gardens

Children have helped celebrate the recent refurbishment of Princess Pavilion and Gyllyngdune Gardens by creating a piece of artwork with two renowned artists.

The youngsters joined John Dyer and Joanne Short in the gardens to paint a scene of the famous bandstand and garden.

Over the course of the day more than 30 children got involved in the session, which took place after the Olympic Flame passed through Falmouth.

In addition to painting part of a group picture with the two artists, every child also did drawings of the plants around Gyllyngdune.

The finished group painting will be framed and hung in the new Garden Room building at the Pavilion.

Anyone who missed the community painting session can still take part in the Global Gardens competition, which is open to anyone under the age of 16.

All youngsters need to do is create their own ‘gardens’ painting, drawing or mixed media picture and email it toart@johndyergallery.co.uk to be entered into the competition.

Judges will be John Dyer and 1980s pop star Kim Wilde who has now become a garden designer.

There is a range of prizes, including £150 prints signed by Alan Titchmarsh and John Dyer.

The winning pictures will be printed in the Packet Newspaper, with all entries exhibited on the John Dyer Gallery’s website.

A prize giving event and private view will take place at Gyllyngdune Gardens.
